Turquoise is still somewhat of a mystery to modern science. Some believe that as the copper minerals decompose they, in effect, turn into the gemstone that we refer to as turquoise. Most usually, turquoise is found less than 60 feet below ground, but in some cases where volcanic cracks are present, turquoise may be found much deeper.
